Title: Chinese New Year!!
Its time for fire crackers, ang pows, bak kua, love letters, pineapple tarts and chingay procession.. Its Chinese New Year!! Its the most important festival in Chinese Lunar calendar..
Visiting, catching up with cousins and eating new year goodies.. These are some of the stuff we normally do during these few days of celebration.. I went over to Hanchong's place on friday for steamboat, gathering and gambling session.. Its a yearly affair since our secondary school days.. Its good to know that after so many years, the few of us will definitely be around for this dinner.. From discussions about poly and JC life to army days and now our career paths.. That's the transition we made through the years.. Its a recollection about how we started out in Whitley Sec and continued our friendship after 10 years and may more to come.. We have arranged for a soccer session tomorrow - something that we have not done for a few years already.. Let's hope that everybody turns up not too late and we can really have a good workout session..
*cheers*

Title: Happy Birthday!!
Its been one month since the start of the new year.. This translates to some of us may have celebrated our birthdays by now.. If my memory doesn't fail me, Wenxiong, Xueli, How Chai, Shaoqiang, Yeeling, Chen Yu and Alex Chia would have been 23 by now.. Not forgetting Victor whom I have forgotten to send an sms to.. *pardon me* Birthdays are supposed to be a joyous ocassion where many of your loved ones will be around to celebrate this meaningful day which could only happen once a year.. Some choose to hold lavish and elaborated birthday celebrations which could last for days while others prefer it to be just an another day on the calendar without much fanfare..
I belong to the latter where I didnt really put much effort in celebarting my birthdays.. It could due to the fact that I didnt have a proper birthday until I was old enough to walk, run and write.. My family ran into some financial problems back then.. It was only in JC days where I truly understand the significance of one's birthday.. Since then, I look forward to my birthday until recently, things took a twist and changed.. Anyway, this entry isn't talking about my birthdays or how I celebrated them, its about this movie entitled "Happy Birthday" which starred Louis Koo and Rene Liu.. They were lovers and friends too.. Its a complicated story whereby they love each other but they do not seem to be together.. Rene lost her mum when she was young, her mum left her without a trace or a note.. Since then, she has been living with her dad and grandma.. Because of this incident, she had a stigma which makes her feeling insecure, that's why she does not want to be committed to Louis, afraid that he could just leave her without notice since he's such a ladies' man.. Louis on the other hand is playful and a natural magnet for girls.. Thus, he's not ready to settle down until he met Rene..
As with all love stories.. There isn't a happy ending to this.. Louis died of cancer and Rene did not know about this at all.. She thought that he had married and living in Shanghai, but the truth is Louis had left the world 4 years ago.. That's a short summary of the story..
I have some thoughts about this movie.. Firstly, I must say the plot is good and interesting but predictable.. I could understand what message the producer and director is trying to imply.. "Love is to be treasured, not neglected. It comes when you least expects it & leaves when you need it most. Treasure your love, do not regret!!" It was pretty obvious that both Louis and Rene are in love with each other but they just couldn't let go of whatever they are carrying on their shoulders and drag this relationship for too long.. I could say that they took each other's presence for granted and when its too late, there's nothing much they can do..
In a relationship, one party will love the other party more and put in that extra bit of effort.. In this case, i felt that Rene loves Louis more than he does but towards the end, Louis was loving her more than she does or should i say, it was comparable.. The way he decided not to let her know that he is dying of cancer so that she will not be devastated was pretty touching.. I guess he realise that he's beginning to love her more and more.. Alas, it was not meant to be.. Rene didnt have a clue about what's happening and thought that Louis was breaking her heart time and time again.. Little did she know that, this was all wrong, very wrong.. When you have a chance to be with someone, treasure it and never let it go.. Its not easy to find someone you love, its even harder to find someone who loves you back.. Put in your 100% and more if you could in your relationship.. Never take your partner for granted and do whatever you always wanted to do instead of waiting, you will never know when you are going to have this chance again.. Just remember one thing.. Do not regret but cherish those memories as it could never ever happen again..
We don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it.
But we don’t know what we’ve been missing until it arrives.
